Time for some actual cricket now.
Everyone knows the narrative by now, England are in the ascendancy and the Aussies might as well not show up, but I’m still loath to predict an England series win, at least until the end of the second Test.
The main reason for my circumspection is Mitchell Johnson – he’s the one bowler on either side with the pace to intimidate and then clean out the opposition. Stuart Broad has a knack of bowling match-winning spells without quite the same brutality, but if Johnson can make anything like the impact he had on South Africa two winters ago then England’s underachieving batting line-up face an ice cold shower.
We’ll have a much better idea tomorrow evening. After all, a good pre-season never makes a title winner.
And now to bed. I’ll be blogging session by session throughout the Test on The Wisden Cricketer’s website tomorrow.
